For the week ending Dec. 8th, 2023, students read the first three chapters of our new book Monster by Walter Dean Myers. They are creating storyboards to develop a short film based on their interpretation of the book. In academics, students are moving on to Unit 4 in their courses. They are also learning about improper fractions. In business, students are learning how to write checks for real world situations and reviewing for a quiz on personal finance.

Academics:
We began an introduction and review of fractions this week.  Students demonstrated their ability to convert mixed numbers to improper fractions using the correct order of operations. Students are also working on unit 4 projects and quizzes.

Business and Media Integration (Mr. Thompson):
This week, students are reviewing units on understanding the economy, franchising, and personal finance. To review, students played a game of "Business Jeopardy." Students also wrote checks for real world situations like paying companies for landscaping and roofing.

CBS 58 (Radio, TV, Podcasting):
CBS-58 joined us on the MATC-West Allis Campus on Friday to film commercials that will air later this month.  The students were featured in our school spotlight, giving the TV crew a first-hand look at how we "do" school at UMA.  Stay tuned for information about air date.

MATC Residency
Students completed their career assignments. They identified three very different professions they might be interested in pursuing. Then they researched programs that are offered at MATC to help prepare them for success in those careers. Lastly, the students identified transferrable skills that can be used in their chosen professions. Below is a sample of the great work that UMA Junior, Reggie, completed.

Reggie exploring possible career choices and the skills needed for those careers.
