Dear UpGrade Media Arts Community: 

For the week ending March 15th, 2024, students are moving along in the reading of our newest book Wonder by R.J. Palacio by completing chapters 18 & 19. Our MATC Downtown Campus culunary arts students are learning about kitchen safety as they are preparing to start learning recipes soon. In academics, students are working on labs and quizzes for their end of lesson assignment. In business, students are learning about pitch decks and will be taking a look at pitch decks from different companies.

Academics: 
In math, students are reviewing the difference between theoretical probability and experimental probability through a coin toss assignment. In civics, they are learning about how diversification can help countries sustain economically during a crisis. In science, students are studying the different properties of light through a lab where they measure the angle of refraction. In ELA, students are using a plot diagram to understand the elements of a short story.

Business and Media Integration (Mr. Thompson):   
This week, students are learning about startups through pitch decks. They are reviewing pitch decks from different companies such as Tesla, Uber, and other companies to further their understanding of the startup process.

MATC Culinary Arts Course
UMA high school chefs donned their chef's coats and aprons and began learning about knife techniques.  They practiced these skills while cutting a potato.  Chef Jason also explained the technique for scrambling the perfect egg using a whisk, rubber spatula, clarified butter and just the right amount of heat.
